Corporate Activities / Team Away Days / Volunteering

Questions and Answers Icon

Away days are important for team building. They offer an opportunity for staff to get to know each other outside the workplace,

unrestricted by organisational hierarchy. They encourage and improve communication and build and strengthen relationships. They encourage creativity and innovation. Teams get the opportunity to think differently away from the day job. Away days are increasingly important in a world of highly flexible working practices where teams are not meeting each other in person as often as they used to.

Leaside is a great venue for corporate activities or team away days. We have a number of great spaces for teams to use including a large hall, a classroom and outdoor spaces (outdoor classroom and canal boat) that can be set up flexibly to meet your team needs and objectives. We can tailor the venue and activities.

  • Different – a day away from the office
  • Motivational
  • Team building and collaborative
  • Active
  • Fun and enjoyable

Option 1 Leave it to us – Full or Half day

Leaside working with ecoActive deliver a full day of activities for you and your team. That could be a practical session on the water learning to canoe, kayak or paddleboard or doing a water based litter pick. A second session in our classroom or main hall learning about your household or organisation carbon footprint or another fun environmental learning session. You could also help us with some site maintenance.

Option 2 Half Day Team Strategy / Half Day Water Based – Full Day

The day can be run completely by your staff or we can help facilitate some sessions, for example, a morning planning, strategising or thinking collectively about organisational priorities, visions and plans. Sessions run by your team. Then spend the afternoon learning a new skill on the water (paddleboarding, canoeing, kayaking or take the helm on our canal boat for a leisurely cruise up the river.

Option 3 Any of the above for a half day.

A typical day could be as follows

9:30 Arrive at Leaside for some tea and pastries
10:00-10:30 Briefing session and getting kitted up for the water
10:30-12:30 On the water (kayak, canoe, paddleboard)
12:30-14:00 Off water, showers and lunch (either in main hall, indoor classroom or on the lawn)
14:00 – 16:00 Strategic planning, team work, EcoActive Educational Session, Support Leaside in some maintenance.
16:00-16:30 Wrap up, clean up and head for home or the pub

As a charity we also offer teams the opportunity to come and help us ensure we can better deliver our charitable services to the community. We run short- and longer-term maintenance days. In addition, you might want your staff to develop skills in management and skill sharing or offer your staff a regular volunteering opportunity. We are always looking for volunteers to support our Trustees in running the organisation. Please contact us.

Team days and corporate days are good for teams. They are an effective and highly motivational way to get teams to work more strongly together.
